I am not the typical professional biker. Until the age of 22 I had never even been on a mountain bike, but one trip changed everything. Buying a relatively cheap mountain bike, I set out for almost a year on an extraordinary trip that took me from Buenos Aires, Argentina all the way to Vancouver, Canada. The total distance I peddled was over 16,000 kilometers or almost 10,000 miles. A new passion burned in me after this trip. I discovered the most inspiring and amazing way to see the world … by bicycle. Upon returning home to Germany from this trip I quickly started planning the next bicycle adventure. I quit my studies, saved money, and by the next summer I had hit the road again this time flying to China. This trip began in July of 2010 where I started in Beijing, China and biked, via mostly the Tibetan high plateau, to Kathmandu, Nepal navigating some of the world’s highest passes in the process. The trip had been another success and any doubts of breaking the Guinness World Record for the fastest bicycling time around the world had gone for me.
